There are so many reasons to support independent journalism it's hard to know where to begin. You've probably heard most of them before so I'll spare you the repetition. But here's one you might not have heard:
Bari Weiss, the editor-in-chief installed by CBS News’ new, Trump-friendly owners, had 15 tables at the White House Correspondents' Dinner!
That's a lot of tables!
Tables at the WHCD are a kind of proxy for who's who in the DC journalism scene. I can tell you from experience, 15 tables is a lot of tables. It may sound silly, but it's a sign of the further erosion of our journalism institutions. The WHCD is a pretty ridiculous event to begin with, so Bari having all those tables might seem par for the course, but that is sorta the point: It wasn't, once upon a time, and things are worse now.
We had zero tables. But we do have 40% off an annual membership that will help us produce a high quality digital news website, two podcasts, five newsletters, a YouTube channel and a bunch of social media accounts you can find at the bottom of this email. We spend money on journalism
